Netflix has secured another major anime series that fans can anticipate to be out for them in the upcoming Summer as the first teaser of ‘The Summer Hikaru Died’ has been released. The series was created by Mokumokuren and has had a lot of attention from viewers since it made its debut in Kadokawa Shoten’s Young Ace in 2021.
It is all set to reach a broader audience with the release of its official TV anime adaptation, which allows the viewers to discover the reasons behind its huge appeal. Initially, ‘The Summer Hikaru Died’ was announced earlier this Spring but it is now scheduled to be released during the Summer 2025 season and may start airing in July.

‘The Summer Hikaru Died’ was initially created by Mokumokuren for Kadoakwa Shoten’s Young Ace, presenting a haunting narrative revolving around two best friends. Yoshiki and Hikaru are the two best friends talked about who may share a deeper connection.
When Hikaru disappears mysteriously and later returns with an unsettling change, it takes no time for Yoshiki to realize that the one who has returned is not the same Hikaru who went missing. Despite the realization of the transformation, Yoshiki feels an irresistible pull towards this changes Hikaru and remains by his always, even as a greater threat looms in the shadows. ‘The Summer Hikaru Died’ is being directed by Ryoheri Takeshita who is well known for directing ‘Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night’. The lead characters in the series, Yoshiki Tsujinaka and Hikaru Indou will be played by actors Chiaki Kobayashi and Shuichiro Umeda, respectively. As the anime prepares for its Summer launch next year, anticipation continues to build among fans.
