The renowned Canadian actor Donald Sutherland who entertained the world for over seven decades has passed away. Suffering from a long illness, the ‘M*A*S*H’ actor died at the age of 88.
On 20 June, his son Kiefer Sutherland who is also a great actor and musician shared this unfortunate event with the world. Taking his ‘X’ (formerly called Twitter) account, he wrote, “With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away.”
Praising his late father, he added, “I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived.”
A Creative Artists agency that represents Sutherland also confirmed the actor’s death to CBS News, revealing the death place to be Miami, Florida.
Donald Sutherland’s Acting Career
Donald was born on 17 July 1935 in Saint John, New Brunswick. In 1957, he left Canada for Britain to become an actor. Due to his burning desire and exceptional talent, he started getting supporting roles in movies and TV series.
Firstly, he was featured in the British drama film ‘The World Ten Times Over’ and later got different roles in various movies including Castle of the Living Dead, Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors, The Bedford Incident, and more.
But he rose to prominence with the dark war comedy film ‘M*A*S*H’ released in 1970. This superhit film is considered one of the greatest films ever made. After its release, Sutherland experienced a rise in his fan following and he started getting bigger projects.
Since then, he never looked back and appeared in more than 150 movies and TV shows. Some blockbuster films of Donald are Kelly’s Heroes, Klute, Don’t Look Now, Fellini’s Casanova, The Eagle Has Landed, Animal House, JFK, Hunger Games Franchise, and more.
For his memorable contribution to the entertainment industry, he was honored with several awards such as Canda’s Walk of Fame, Academy Honorary Award, Golden Globe Award, and many more.
