The spinoff of the fantasy drama TV series Game of Thrones, House of The Dragon is back with its second season. On June 16, its first episode premiered with the title ‘A Son for a Son.’ Based on parts of Martin’s novel ‘Fire & Blood’, the latest season starts from where the first one left off.

In the sequel, we go back nearly 200 years to a time when House Targaryen ruled due to Aegon I Targaryen’s earlier victory. In the second season, Rhaenyra and her half-brother Aegon fight for the throne during the Targaryen civil war, often known as the Dance of the Dragons. Additionally, it follows the fallout of Rhaenyra Targaryen’s son Lucery’s death who was killed by Prince Aemond Targaryen and his dragon.

Like various Game of Thrones season premieres, House of the Dragon season 2, episode 1 runs at a slow pace. Even after the build-up for the Dance of the Dragons, the plot demands more patience from the viewers. It might be annoying for those who don’t love abrupt inclusions and want circumstances to change soon. 

Undoubtedly, the whole star cast including Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Tom Glynn Carney, Rhys Ifans, Ewan Mitchell, Steve Toussaint, and Sonoya Mizuno perform their roles commendably but Emma D’Arcy steals the show. 

She plays the role of Rhaenyra with perfection. The way she portrays the emotions of her character makes her stand out from the other cast members. With her captivating performance, she has won millions of hearts and is designated as one of the best actors in the series. 

Before the premiere, many fans were excited about the appearance of Cregan Stark in House of the Dragon season 2 but his less screen presence broke their hearts. Expressing their disappointment with Stark’s screen presence, series lovers are outraged on social media. They believe that the makers should provide more screen time for his character.

In the climax of House of the Dragon season 2, episode 1, Blood and Cheese murder Prince Jaehaerys. It was one of the most-awaited moments that should have been presented with huge potential but fans missed the spark in the scene. It could become one of the most significant scenes of the entire show but makers presented it unimpressively.

Directed by Alan Taylor and written by Ryan Condal, House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 1 received mixed reviews from critics. Some praise the show’s thrilling storyline, jaw-dropping visuals, intense action, and powerful performances of the star cast while others have complained about the pace; the story slows down at various moments. 

This season consists of eight episodes which are scheduled to be released on June 16, June 23, June 30, July 7, July 14, July 21, July 28, and August 4 respectively. The first episode has been premiered and garnered mixed reviews. Let’s see what kind of reviews the upcoming episodes will get from the audience and the critics.
