The sports drama television series ‘All American’ has been running successfully for six years. In June 2024, it is renewed for the seventh season. But this time, fans will miss Daniel Ezra in the series who played the lead character, Spencer James.
Deadline confirmed that the actor will not return in the seventh season of ‘All American’ as lead. But it is expected that he can make a guest appearance. According to a ‘Variety’ report, the decision was made before the production of season 6.
Deadline revealed that the series “will likely do what other high-school/college series like Glee have done, introduce next-gen young characters. This will help reduce costs, making it more palatable for WBTV to continue to produce the show at its CW-level license fee.”
Daniel Ezra Calls His Decision of Leaving ‘All American’ Difficult
In a statement to Deadline, Ezra stated, “After making the difficult decision to leave All American, my sole focus became completing the journey of the most life-affirming character I’ve ever played in the manner he deserves. Thanks to Nkechi and the writers, I got my wish. Season six is ‘Spencer’s Goodbye.’ I’ll miss him. I’ll miss our cast and crew. I hope it’s been as fun to watch him as it has been to play him.”
Regarding working with Daniel Ezra in six seasons of ‘All American’, the showrunner Okoro Carroll said, “Partnering with Daniel Ezra over the last six seasons to bring Spencer’s story to life has been such an amazing, fulfilling, experience. Daniel truly is a gift and brought so much to the character on and off the field.”
She continued, “And while Spencer has achieved his NFL dreams, I’m grateful Daniel will still remain an important part of this family, both in front of and behind the camera as we step into a new, exciting chapter of All American.”
Fans Reaction to the Daniel Ezra Exit
‘All American’ series fans are expressing their disappointment on social media. One of the fans wrote, “Whaaatttttttt?!! We sat through this whole season to find out Spencer is leaving the show! TF! What was the point of renewing Season 7 without the main character?!? This show is about him! Just cancel the whole thing. No one is going to watch it anymore” while another called it ridiculous and suggested to end the show.
A third fan said, “What is the point of s7 then? Tonight’s episode could have been the perfect end.”
